Meet Dr. Maya Pinjala, who is currently completing a post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, and the February featured Science Sista of the month! Dr. Pinjala earned her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and completed a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She completed a predoctoral internship in Clinical Psychology within the Central Arkansas Veterans Health System, serving veterans in Little Rock, Arkansas. She has clinical and research interests in assessing the cognitive functioning in adults and the elderly with a wide range of psychiatric, neurological, and complex medical disorders.
She was recently awarded a half a million-dollar grant to study and treat older adults suffering neuropsychiatric symptoms following an ICU stay, including hospitalization for COVID-19. One of her main goals is to expand high-quality care to underserved populations in the Detroit area and across the state of Michigan. Outside of work, she loves connecting to her Indian/Caribbean roots in the kitchen!
